THIRD SUMMER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 20 July 2011

Sunday 17 July 2011 was a damp, windy day that was more like autumn than summer. The river was still very low, but with a slight tinge of colour. After almost running to fancied peg 48, Ken Arnold could only manage second place in the end with 5 barbel for 25 Lbs 10 Ozs, as he was just pipped to the post by Graham Jones from peg 88 with an all barbel catch of 26 Lbs dead. Third was Carl (I know where the bream are) Duckett from peg 76 with 19 Lbs 12 Ozs, which consisted of 3 bream (again!) and one barbel. Final man to frame was Paul Harrison with 3 barbel and some "bits" from peg 14 which totalled 14 Lbs 5 Ozs, narrowly beating young new-comer, Adam Barsby into 5th place with 14 Lbs 4 Ozs. Ken Arnold now leads the league with 23 points. Carl Duckett is second one point behind on 22 and Adam Barsby is third on 20. NICE BARBEL FOR DAVE HUMPHRIES

by Bernie Jones 19 July 2011

This is the kind of fish that would brighten any session on our water. A 9 Lbs 5 Ozs hen fish taken off peg 38 by Dave Humphries on 15 July 2011. Dave commented that she took him 10 minutes to land but that it was all well worth it as "She's a beauty!"

REPORT ANY SUSPICIOUS ANGLERS

by Bernie Jones 19 July 2011

I have received a couple of calls lately from members fishing our waters who have seen suspicious people fishing. In some cases these people have been of Eastern European extraction. Rather than waste time 'phoning me, it is really important to contact the Environment Agency Incident hotline 0800 807060 as soon as possible. Please put this number into your mobile 'phone now and use it if you see anyone suspicious in future.

DOG INJURED BY FISHING HOOK

by Bernie Jones 14 July 2011

I have been informed that a dog recently managed to get a fishing hook into its mouth whilst its owner was walking round Cressage Meadow. This was obviously very distressing and shouldn't happen. But this serves as a timely reminder for all members to ensure that they are particularly careful when handling hooks (and line) as they can be extremely dangerous to dogs and wild life.

MATCH WINNING PEGS - 2011

by Bernie Jones 14 July 2011

I have received requests from members wanting to know from where the weights came at our Summer League matches. Dave Upton, our Match Secretary, has put together a spreadsheet containing this information down to 10th place for the matches so far. The weights have been rounded to the nearest pound. SECOND SUMMER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 6 July 2011

Sunday 3 July saw 26 members turn out to our second Summer League match on a bright, warm day. The river was low, but had a tinge of colour. This made it hard going for most competitors and eventual winner was Reg Ford with a weight of 41 Lbs 4 Ozs consisting of 8 barbel fro peg 88; second was Carl Duckett with 22 Lbs 8 Ozs from peg 26 that consisted of 3 bream and a barbel. Carl lost 3 bream at the net, which would have put him in contention for the win! Third, with 14 Lbs 11 Ozs was a frustrated Graham Jones who lost 7 fish on the tree in peg 83, mostly hooked on the waggler. For the full result, click on the link below.

FOREIGNERS ON OUR WATER

by Bernie Jones 4 July 2011

I have had two reports of foreign people, probably Eastern Europeans, either fishing, or asking members about fishing, in Cressage Meadow. Would all members please challenge anyone who seems to be suspicious on our waters. Just politely ask to see their membership card and if they don't have one, explain that this is a private fishery and that they need to contact myself regarding membership. If they refuse to leave the water, do not argue with them, but just call the Environment Agency on 0800 807060 to report the incident. Please put this number into your mobile 'phone now, so you will not have to call me to do it, as this will save time!

BIG BREAM FALLS TO LADY MEMBER!

by Bernie Jones 2 July 2011

One of our lady members has shown the lads the way to do it! Jayne Smith from Jayne's Tackle (where else!) took this 7 Lbs + Bream on a halibut pellet using just a simple bomb ledger rig. The 'slab' came from the "esses" during an evening session. Husband Bob commented that he just hopes Jayne does not get interested in Salmon fishing now, as she keeps catching many more fish than him! Jayne is also thinking of entering one or two of the Summer League matches soon, so watch out all you match anglers! Nice colour nail varnish by the way Jayne! (Anne says).

LITTER!

by Bernie Jones 1 July 2011

I have been appalled at the amount of litter left in pegs around Cressage Meadow in these opening weeks of the season. This has not been a problem in past seasons, so I must assume that something has changed to cause this situation. I would remind members that if anyone is caught with litter in the peg they are fishing, it will lead to a ban from the Society. So PLEASE take you litter home with you, as it just gets a us a bad reputation, injures wild life and ruins the countryside. Even if you did not drop it, pick it up and take it home.
