EIGHTH WINTER LEAGUE MATCH (FINAL)

by Bernie Jones 12 April 2017

On a bright, mild, but very windy 26 March the final match of the 2016/17 Winter League was held on Melverley Pools Birches pool. Many of those contesting this match found it hard going after the the over night frost and the wind that was so strong it made float fishing almost impossible. However, Bob Smith somehow managed to fish the 16m pole aganst the island and caught steadily through the 5 hours for a winning weight of 22 Lbs 2 Ozs that included a "lump" carp taken late on. Second was that man again, Ken Arnold with just 10 Lbs 14 Ozs, just 2 Ozs ahead of joint third placed anglers Will Carr and yours truly on 10 Lbs 12 Ozs. This meant that although Ken had already won the league with a magnificent 66 points from a maximum of 80, I managed to nip into second spot with 45 points, just one point ahead of Clive Biddulph on 44. A tight and exciting finish to this year's campaign, but we will have to break some of Ken's rods to stop him winning in future I think! Click on the link to see the full final result.
