RESULT OF SUMER LEAGUE MATCH 3

by Bernie Jones 20 July 2020

Match 3 was fished on 19th July, which was a hot sunny day, with a gusty west breeze. This was the first Float Only match and was won by Clive Biddulph from Peg 9 with a fantastic float catch of chub for 52 Lbs - despite losing several! This peg is not easy to fish, as the fish are on the far bank and once hooked need to be played through fast, shallow water all the way to the net. Well done Clive. Second from Peg 27 was new member Tony Kilmister with a respectable 19 Lbs 8 Ozs and third from Peg 13 was Graham Jones with 9 Lbs 10 Ozs.

RESULTS OF SUMMER LEAGUE MATCHES 1 AND 2

by Bernie Jones 20 July 2020

The first match of the Summer League under COVID-19 conditions was all fished on Cressage Meadow, to ensure that only the scales man touched the scales and our new weighing "bucket.' It was won by myself from Peg 9 with 7 chub and one barbel all taken on pellet for a weight of 39 Lbs 8 Ozs. Second from Peg 5 was Ken Arnold with 3 barbel for 16 Lbs 4 Ozs and third from Peg 10 was Brian Tinman with 2 barbel and a chub for 11 Lbs 4 Ozs. The river was low and clear and some torrential showers made the conditions difficult for some competitors - including me as I didn't bring a brolly!

The second match used two sections (Cressage Meadow and Taylor's Farm) as we now have 2 new weigh "buckets" to enable scales men to weigh everyone safely. The river had a bit of colour and was up about 18" after the previous days of rain. The match was won by Paul Harrison from Peg 10 with a "bag of bits" as he put it, for 13 Lbs 4 Ozs. Joint second were Paul Styche from Peg 74 and Ken Arnold from Peg 88 both with 12 Lbs 6 Ozs.

by Bernie Jones 13 July 2020

This is a reminder for all members planning to fish this coming Sunday's match. It's a FLOAT ONLY match which, just like the World Championships, means that you must not let a bait remain static, ensuring it does move under a float with the current. So, NO FLOAT LEDGERING is allowed.

Please book in with our Match Secretary, Will Carr on 07903 505123

Remember to bring your float gear and that the draw will be at 0845 Hrs to allow extra time for Covid-19 restrictions.

SHIRLEY'S FIRST PIKE

by Bernie Jones 6 July 2020

Member Shirley Cottrill was doing a spot of spinning in the "S" bends in late June and encountered this nicely marked 8 Lbs pike. Luckily, husband Chris was on hand to deal with the "jaws of the river" as Shirley was having nothing to do with it! Shirley did well to get old Esox out of some margin reeds to net it. Well done Shirley! Is it bigger than your Personal Best Chris......?
