LOOSE SHEEP!

by Bernie Jones 24 August 2014

Will all members please take great care to ensure that the chain and lock on the gate between pegs F and G are pulled tight shut when going through it. The farmer who owns the meadow from peg G downstream has had sheep get through the gate from the upstream side, as it has been left with the chain slack enough for them to do this. If it happens again, he has told me that he will put a physical barrier across his side to stop them. This will not enable members to get through the gate with their trollies. PLEASE TAKE NOTE AND COMPLY WITH THIS REQUEST. Will those of you that read this please pass on the request to other members who do not have Internet access.

FOURTH SUMMER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 10 August 2014

After some welcome overnight rain that put a couple of inches on the river level and a slight tinge to its colour, the wind got up and produced a strong downstreamer. But the day was hot and sunny, which did not greatly help. Winner of the match was Ken Arnold from peg 76 with 23 Lbs 8 Ozs, which consisted of 4 barbel all taken late on, after the river rose a little. Second was David Leary from the other fancied peg, peg 6 with 3 barbel for 17 Lbs 8 Ozs. Third was Gary Stinton with 2 barbel for 12 Lbs 2 Ozs from peg G on the Buildwas water.

Things are starting to tighten at the top now with Paul Harrison still in pole position on 28 points, but Graham Jones has closed the gap with 25 points and Ken Arnold has entered the fray with this win and it has brought him into third spot with 22 points.

THIRD SUMMER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 10 August 2014

As I was attending my father's funeral, I missed this match. Many people were also on holiday, so the turnout was low. But stalwart matchman, Pat Nolan managed to tempt 5 barbel from peg 6 to take the win, with 25 Lbs 6 Ozs. Second was Colin Morris with 12 Lbs 8 Ozs and third, Colin's travelling buddy from Llangollan, David Leary with 11 Lbs dead. I don't have peg details.

As Graham Jones was not present, this allowed Paul Harrison to take the lead with 24 points to Graham's 19. In third place now is Colin Morris on 15. So it's starting to get interesting.

SECOND SUMMER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 10 August 2014

Apologies to everyone for this late post, but my father died and I had to sort out his funeral and estate.

This match was fished on a hot day with low river conditions, which made finding barbel difficult. Paul Harrison (with the golden arm!) drew fancied peg 76 and managed to return 3 good barbel to the scales for exactly 16 Lbs. Second was Graham Jones from peg M on the Buildwas water with 2 barbel and a bream for 14 Lbs 6 Ozs and third was our Match Secretary, Dave Upton from peg 88 with 2 barbel for 11 Lbs 6 Ozs.

Early days yet for the league, but with a win and second place to both Graham Jones and Paul Harrison they are equal on points, with Graham edging it on weight by 11 Lbs.
