On the hottest day of the year, with temperatures reaching 28C and the day being very humid, most of the 23 anglers that contested this first match were sweltering. The river was almost at its normal summer level and the wind was almost non-existant, so fish were hard to find in the bright sunlight, so weights were not impressive. Winner was Steve Bedwell, all the way from Devon, who considered himself to be "pools fodder" so did not go in the pool! Steve weighed 31 Lbs 4 Ozs of 6 barbel taken from peg 81. Second was Dave Leary with 30 Lbs dead from peg 13 and with a 25 Lbs 4 Ozs bag of 4 barbel (click on the link below) was Ken Arnold from peg 102 in third place. Would all members please note that pegs 37 to 70 are always left for pleasure anglers on match days. The dates for our regular Summer League matches are printed on your Membership Card and you should NOT fish any of the remaining pegs on match days.
