10th SUMMER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS (WINES & SPIRITS)

by Bernie Jones 27 October 2015

After a touch of frost, the day brightened up and was very still. The river was in dire need of some more water. All of which made the going really hard for this last match of the Summer League. The winner came from from peg 97 though and Paul Harrison managed to net a couple of bream and three barbel for 22 Lbs 11 Ozs - despite nearly losing his rod and reel that he left on the rest in the middle of the river when one of the barbel took it! Second was Tony Poolton with 14 Lbs 14 Ozs from peg 25 and third was Nick Bastock with one barbel from peg 95 for 6 Lbs 9 Ozs. Only 5 others weighed in, as the rest of the field blanked, including Gary Stiinton who did not have a bite from peg 6. This meant that the eventual Angler of the Year Trophy goes to Ken Arnold, who managed to catch a solitary bream from peg 76 for 5 more points to Gary's 0. This pipped Gary by a single point! Hard luck Gaz, maybe next season, or you could maybe get Ken back in the Winter League. For the full result click on the link.

NICE DOUBLE BARBEL FOR ANDREW

by Bernie Jones 20 October 2015

Member Andrew Taylor recently fished the downstream end of the Buildwas water in the mid-river crease, offering a "rolling" bait of cubed meat, casting across the current and bouncing the bait around to best imitate the free offerings he fed. He used 10 Lbs line straight through on a Hardy Specialist 1.75lbs test curve rod and Shimano baitrunner real to tempt this lovely conditioned 11 Lbs 7 Ozs October barbel. Just click on the link to see Andrew's fish.

9th SUMMER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 13 October 2015

On a bit of a chilly morning this penutimate match was fished. It was one of those days where a different approach was required to maximise catches and Kevin Nicholls, one of the guys who makes the 150 mile round trip from the Wirral, showed everyone how it is done with a great 34 Lbs 11 Ozs bag of chub and one barbel off peg 13. Second was seasoned campaigner Pat Nolan from his favourite peg 25 with five barbel for 31 Lbs 10 Ozs and in third spot was the man with the golden arm now (as he drew peg 88 again, so should know how to fish it by now!) Nick Bastock, with 16 Lbs 4 Ozs - but this would have been better if he had not lost some fish after breaking his rod in half! But, as so often happens in this league, Gary Stinton, who has been comfortably leading the way till now, only managed 3 points with just one barbel off peg 102. So this now means there are just 4 points between Gary and second placed man Ken Arnold, who could not fish this round. So, once again it all comes down to the final match on 25 October. Who will end up as Angler of the Year? Read it here first. For full match result, click on the link below.
