On a breezy, bright and sunny day the second round of this year's Winter League was contested by 15 anglers. The venue was a little strange in that the "New Canal Pool" at Heronbrook Fisheries is actually two separate "canal like" strips of water, one about 15m wide, the other nearer 10m. However, Clive Biddulph fishing on the wider one into the sun, with a stiff left to right breeze, managed a fantastic weight of 92 Lbs 8 Ozs taken on the long pole. Second, with a weight of 38 Lbs 8 Ozs taken on the feeder, was Gordon Bradley. Third spot went to Ken Arnold with 34 Lbs 6 Ozs taken on long pole and in the margin. This means that after two rounds Clive now leads with 17 points; Nick Bastock is second on 14 and third is Paul Stych on 12. But with eight rounds still to be fished, anything can happen - and probably will!

On a mild, for the time of year, 4th November the first round of this year's Winter League was fished on the river. Normal, but clear, river levels and mostly bright skies did not really help to produce good weights. However, Ant James managed to winkle out a couple of barbel and a couple of chub using feeder and waggler for a weight of 16 Lbs 4 Ozs from peg 80 to take the win. Second, from peg 18, was Nick Bastock with exactly 14 Lbs of dace and "chublets" taken on the float. Third from peg 75 was yours truly with 8 Lbs 9 Ozs consisting of one barbel on the feeder and 3 small chub on the waggler. Early days yet and the next round sees the start of the pools venues, with a match on the prestigious Heronbrook Fisheries.
