3 December 2012
I think that those who fished it will not forget this match that was fished on Swan Pit near Gnosall on Sunday 2 December 2012, courtesy of WULAC. Although some of us might not think £5/peg was worth it, as only 8 from the 18 who turned out caught, it was a different challenge. A very different challenge! This was because the pool was frozen over and if it had not been for the heroic efforts of Mick Clapperton and Adam Barsby, who took the boat out to break the ice in 18 pegs, we would not have had a match at all. So well done lads and thank you.
Under these conditions, it was never going to be easy and just about everyone opted for a pole approach with fine lines and small hooks and maggot for bait. This proved to be the winning method for Colin Morris who put 8 roach and one rudd on the scales for a winning weight of 2 Lbs 4 Ozs. Second with another 9 fish for 1 Lb 2 Ozs, was Craig Cope and third place went to Nick Bastock with 13 Ozs. Just think what you could have done if you spent the whole match fishing instead of walking around Nick!
After 3 matches it's Gary Stinton in the lead with just 12 penalty points, followed by Nick Bastock second on 13 and Eric Rimmer third on 16. But with the next match scheduled for Aston Eyre pool on 13 January 2013 and the best 4 results from the 6 leg series to count, anything could happen - and probably will!
