SCRAMBLE MATCH RESULT - 12 MARCH 2017

by Bernie Jones 14 March 2017

The river had been up to its bank top most of the week, but it ran off to just 1.7m above normal winter height for this match. Just 12 anglers competed in lovely warm spring weather - except for the last 30 minutes when some light rain was experienced. Winner was Ken Arnold (again!) with a great weight of 48 Lbs dead, consisting of 7 barbel (biggest 9 Lbs 8 Ozs) taken from peg 18 on meat and pellet. Second, from peg 76, was Graham Jones with 26 Lbs dead consisting of 3 barbel and a chub, taken on meat. Third was Gary Stinton from peg 111 with a weight of 14 Lbs 2 Ozs, taken on meat. The weights then went: 12 Lbs 14 Ozs, 11 Lbs 7 Ozs, 10 Lbs 14 Ozs and 10 Lbs dead. The other 5 anglers either did not bother weighing in, blanked, or went home early!

That's it for the 2016/17 season on the river. See you all in June!

WINTER LEAGUE MATCH DATES FOR 2017/18

by Bernie Jones 14 March 2017

Our Match Secretary, Will Carr, has worked hard on next year's Winter League arrangements. So we can get onto the better venues, he has already booked all the matches in advance. Next year's series will be 10 matches long, running into the closed season to hopefully make use of the better weather! There will be the usual first come, first served arrangemen-, which will require an up front payment of £20 to Will for the "Super Pool" that pays the first, second and third places at the end of the league series. Here are the dates and venues:

5th November 2017 - River Severn

19th November 2017 - Hough Canal Pool

3rd December 2017 - Melverley Farm Birches Pool

28th January 2018 - Monkhall Swallow Pool

11th February 2018 - Spring Lea Orfe Pool

25th February 2018 Monkhall Swallow pool

SEVENTH WINTER LEAGUE MATCH RESULT

by Bernie Jones 13 March 2017

On 5th March 2017 at Weston Pools, the heavens opened and it piss-sitently came down with rain, that then turned to snow before the start of this penultimate round of the 2016/17 Winter League. The Stretton Pool received a lot of unwanted very cold water as a result, which made match weights low - but very close! However, Ken (I always practice) Arnold squeaked in front again, with a winning weight of 14 Lbs 12 Ozs taken on the long pole and corn/pellet (he's thinking of buying another pole now too!). Second was Clive Biddulph with 14 Lbs dead, again taken on the pole. Third was Dave Leary with 13 Lbs 14 Ozs also taken on the pole. This means that Ken now cannot be beaten and the Winter League Trophy is his. However, second and third places for the Super Pool money, is between Clive Biddulph on 38 points, myself on 37 and Kevin Nicholls on 31. So the last match on Birches Pool at Melverley on 26th March will be the place to sort things out.
