The river had been up to its bank top for a few days before this match, but had run off nicely and the colour was good on Sunday 21 October 2012 for the final round of the LAS Summer League match. This match is traditionally the Wines & Spirits match, where those with the 10 best weights win something to put by for Christmas in the booze department! The thick fog that hung around for the first two hours did not nake it very comfortable for the 26 anglers who fished this match, but later the sun did put in a brief appearance and warmed things up a little. Eventual winner was Dave Upton from Peg 83 (which he did not fancy at all before the start!) with 4 barbel for 20 Lbs 8 Ozs; second was Paul (not Phil!) Cooper from Peg 105 with 2 barbel and a nice roach for 12 Lbs 12 Ozs; third was Gary Stinton with 2 barbel for 12 Lbs 9 Ozs. But all Dave Hopwood needed to take the league was 4 Lbs 6 Ozs and 2 points from Peg 101. Well done Dave, a thoroughly well deserved winner and a popular result with the rest of the match anglers. Adam Barsby was just pipped into third place by in form Graham Jones who managed 5 points to Adam's 3, which meant he finished with 45 points to Adam's 44.
We can all look forward to giving Dave a run for his money in the Winter League!

After a lot of rain in the week preceding this match, the river was high, but had a good colour. The banks were very slippery as much silt was deposited during the deluge too. But all this did not deter 21 anglers from turning out for this, the 9th match in the 10 match series.
Not really sure why it did not fish better, but the winner from peg 32 was Gary Stinton with 17 Lbs 9 Ozs (3 barbel); second was Reg Ford from peg 25 with 2 barbel for 12 Lbs 9 Ozs; third was Paul (not Phil!) Cooper from peg 104 with 12 Lbs 3 Ozs and joint fourth were Adam Barsby (peg 72) and Nick Bastock (peg 22) both with 10 Lbs 2 Ozs.
This now means that Dave Hopwood still leads the league with 47 points and Adam Barsby and Graham Jones are the only anglers to catch him, having 41 and 40 points respectively. With just the Wines & Spirits match to go on the 21st October, it will come down to the wire. Who will eventually be crowned Anger of the Year? Read it here first!
