6 December 2011
The third round of the 6 match Winter League series was fished at Aston Eyre Pool, near Moreville on 4th December 2011. Eleven of the twelve winter leaguers turned up on a cold, windy and wet day to do battle with the lovely head of big carp that this pool holds. Many good fish were lost (just ask Nick Bastock about it!) but the man who kept his head down into the wind to win the match with 28 Lbs 8 Ozs was Terry Thompson who travels all the way from the Wirral to compete in these events. Terry used pellet and feeder to tempt 5 good carp to his waiting net. Second (just!) with 28 Lbs 1 Oz was local man Bob Smith with the biggest carp of the day at 14 Lbs 7 Ozs plus another 3. Third was Gordon Bradley, who also comes down to all the LAS matches from the Wirral, with 19 Lbs dead. The league table is now led by Ken Arnold with just 11 penalty points and just one point in front of Carl Pavey on 12. Third now is Gary Stinton (another good Wirral angler and supporter of the Society) on 14 points. His travelling companion, Eric Rimmer, also has 14 points, but Gary is ahead on weight. The wind made it tough - especially for those fishing into it - and the results were not as good as expected. But everyone caught fish, so it proved to be a good decision to try this venue for the first time. For the full result just click on the link below.
