SUMMER LEAGUE - MATCH 6 RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 24 September 2019

The 6th round of this year's Summer League was fished on beautiful autumnal day with bright sunshine and mostly clear blue skies. The river had run off from a mid week downpour, but could have done with a little more colour. The winner was Ken Arnold from peg 95 with 24 Lbs 4 Ozs. Second was Craig Cope with 21 Lbs 4 Ozs from peg 102 and third was Paul Harrison with exactly 16 Lbs from peg 80. This means that Paul has now nipped in front of Clive Biddulph with 36 points to Clive's 33 and third place goes to Dave Leary on 26. With 3 matches to go, it could end up in a tight finish yet again. Click on the link for the full result.

CRAIG'S BIG BARBEL

by Bernie Jones 9 September 2019

On Sunday's 6th match of the Summer League, Craig Cope finished in second place, helped by this 9 Lbs 14 Ozs Barbel - just a couple of ounces short of the magical "double!" This blows away the previous claims for the barbel cup this year, but with 4 matches still to go, who knows? That elusive match double-figure fish may still be out there......!

SUMMER LEAGUE 2019 - MATCH 4 AND 5 RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 5 September 2019

As our Match Secretary has been very busy working, including moving long standing member and matchman Nick Bastock and family to Spain, it has not been possible to publish these result until now. We all wish Nick and his family the best for their new life abroad and will miss him on the society's matches.

Match 4 saw the river up about 3 feet and falling, but really pushing through. Everyone thought it would fish well, but there must have been some "Welsh water" in there somewhere as fish were hard to find. But Dave Leary, from peg 88 managed to put 20 Lbs 8 Ozs onto the scales for the win, with Ben Lloyd second with 17 Lbs 8 Ozs from peg 113 and third was veteran Pat Nolan with 12 Lbs 6 Ozs from peg 6.

Match 5, fished a fortnight later, resulted in Ken Arnold getting back into form and taking the win from peg 103 with a weight of 24 Lbs 8 Ozs. Second was Dave Leary from peg 80 with 19 Lbs 6 Ozs and third was Paul Harrison from peg 88 with 18 Lbs 10 Ozs.

Although Clive Biddulph only managed 5 points in match 5 and failed to score in match 6, he is still leading the league with 30 points. Just 2 points behind is Paul Harrison on 28 and third place goes to Graham Jones on 24. Of course, having had the first match postponed because the river was over its banks means that we have only fished 5 of the 10 match series. It is proposed to fit the postponed match in on the 27th October after match 10. So with half the series still to go, there is time for everyone to catch Clive, Paul and Graham!
