CHARITY MATCH NOW ON.

by Bernie Jones 22 March 2013

Due to the very unseasonal weather, Tony Randall was forced to postpone the match scheduled for Sunday 24 March 2013.

The match has now been re-scheduled for 14 April 2013 and is open to all LAS anglers. Details are:

Manor Fisheries, Tittensor Village, just off junction 15 of the M6, Post Code ST12 9HA. This fishery is no longer open to the public but the owner has kindly allowed Tony to use it for free for the day.  He is not an angler but had the lakes dug, stocked then with carp barbel etc and ran the fishery as a business for a while.  Now the only people who fish it are friends and family.  Apparently they all say that it is well stocked although some of the carp are on the large size (30+). Draw will be at 0900 Hrs and fish from 1030 to 1530 Hrs - or maybe longer if it's a nice day and we are catching a few! This will be a Charity match in aid of a Wildlife Rescue Centre that Tony and his wife support. Entry Fee is £10 that goes to Charity and there will be an optional pool as well.

SCRAMBLE MATCH RESULT

by Bernie Jones 13 March 2013

This match last year was fished in mild spring-like weather. What a difference this year! A biting East wind gusting to 25 mph that pushed the temperature down well into negative windchill enhanced numbers. This made conditions very challenging for the 17 hardy anglers who contested the match. Eventual winner was Ken Arnold (who I think we need to knick-name Nanook of the North now!) Ken had 4 barbel from Peg 22 (where the winner came from last year) for a weight of 22 Lbs 12 Ozs. Ken used maggot fished under a stick float for half the match, but did not have a bite. So he then switched to a bomb with maggot and had 4 but lost one. Second from Peg F2 on the Buildwas water, was Nick Bastock with two good barbel for 14 Lbs 2 Ozs. Nick used a pellet hookbait and feeder, the second fish coming right on the dot of 3 o'clock. Third from Peg 105, was Craig Cope with another brace of barbel for exactly 12 Lbs, again pellet caught. Between 7 anglers 15 barbel were caught and the other 8 of us blanked. Graham Jones managed to winkle out a good bream of 5 Lbs 9 Ozs from Peg 75 to put with his barbel for 9 Lbs 7 Ozs. DENNIS MACHIN

by Bernie Jones 7 March 2013

It is with deep regret that I have to inform you of the sad death of Dennis Machin, who passed away last Sunday 3 March 2013. Many, many anglers owe much to Dennis, who was perhaps one of the most successful salmon anglers on our water, but was also a great match angler in his day too. A large number of us have learnt much from him over the years, as he was the Mr Crabtree of the area who freely imparted his angling knowledge and watercraft to anyone who asked him.

His daughters, Faye and Julie, want as many anglers as possible to know of the funeral arrangements, which are as follows:

Saturday 16th March 2013, 1000 Hrs Holy Trinity Church, Little Dawley. The service will be followed by a cremation at Telford Crematorium.

Dennis will be sadly missed by us all.

Our thoughts are with his family.

DRIVING ROUND CRESSAGE MEADOW (THE GALLOPS)

by Bernie Jones 7 March 2013

Mr Malcolm Corrie, the riparian owner of the Leighton Estate, is in trouble with the Environment Agency because an angler drove his car right round Cressage Meadow then into the next field, through the gate, past peg 35. This really tore up the track he has afforded us to use and therefore the EA has been on his back about it because this Environment Strip is not meant to have vehicles driving over it.

There is a notice about this on the tree at the entrance gate to Cressage Meadow and also a sign saying "No LAS Vehicles beyond this point" on the gate post by Peg 35.

IF THERE ARE ANY FURTHER INCIDENTS OF THIS KIND, MR CORRIE WILL HAVE NO OPTION BUT TO BAN ALL VEHICLES FROM THE ESTATE.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
