FIFTH WINTER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 30 January 2014

The Shropshire Union Canal north of Norbury was the venue for this "grueller" of a match. Heavy overnight rain and strong winds made for very difficult conditions to see tinly bites from tiny roach and gudgeon. Bob Haig, who guested for this match, but is not in the league, ran out clear winner with 60 fish for 1 Lb 1 Oz! Next was yours truly with 10.5 Ozs and third was another guest angler, Nick Bastock, with just 3 Ozs. The remainder of the field struggled and there were 4 dry nets, the remainder weighing in 2 Ozs or less! But this has made for a very interesting finish to the 6 match series, since Bob Smith has now equalled Ken Arnold's penalty points score of 12, but is ahead on weight. David Leary is in third place just one point behind. With only the 4 best results to count, this means that the final match to be fished on 9 February could see any one of 5 anglers win the league. Venue is yet to be decided, as the river will not be fishable for weeks after all the rain we have had and is forecast. For the full result, click on the link.

FOURTH WINTER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 15 January 2014

On one of the coldest mornings of this winter 14 hardy anglers turned out for the 4th round of this year's Winter League series to Aston Eyre Pool. Although bright and sunny to start with and the pool partly frozen, the weather soon turned dull with a bitingly cold breeze. The winner was Adam Barsby who fished the tip all day for 5 carp and a weight of 22 Lbs 14 Ozs. Runner-up was Will Carr from a peg on the opposite side of the pool with 3 carp for 22 Lbs 1 Oz. Will tried the long pole to start, but switched to the tip and "non-boilie" bait! Third from an adjacent peg to Will was Bob Smith with 2 carp for 15 Lbs 8 Ozs. This means that after 4 of the 6 rounds, but best 4 results to count, Ken Arnold still leads with 12 penalty points, Bob Smith moves into second place with 17 and third is David Leary on 18. The next round is on the Shroppie Union Canal near Norbury and there is still everything to fish for. For the full result click on the link below
