FINAL WINTER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 24 February 2015

The re-scheduled sixth and final leg of this year's Winter League was fished by nine anglers who turned out to Melverley Pools on a very cold and frosty 22nd February. As if the cold wasn't bad enough, just half an hour after the match started the wind got up and heavy, squally, showers ensued. This made it very difficult to present a bait on the float for most of us and the tip was forced into use. Eventual winner was that man again, Nick Bastock. Nick used the long pole to tempt some decent sized bream to the net for a winning weight of 16 Lbs 4 Ozs. Second was Clive Biddulph who had a bonus "lump" carp that swelled his net to 12 Lbs 13 Ozs and third man in the money was Kevin Nicholls with 10 Lbs 8 Ozs. The league overall, with best 4 of 6 matches to count, was won by Nick Bastock with just 7 penalty points, who gets the Ken Checkley Memorial Trophy for his efforts. Well done to him. Runner-up was Ken Arnold on 10 penalty points and third was Clive Biddulph with 12, who just pushed Brian Tinman into 4th as Brian had to go to Taiwan and endure 32C temperatures and so missed the final match - well someone had to! FIFTH WINTER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 2 February 2015

The 1st February 2015 certainly sorted the men from the boys, weatherwise. After 3 days of snow, sleet and rain with gale force winds, just 6 hardy anglers turned out to fish this, the penultimate round, at King's Pools. The Carp Pool has 19 pegs, so we had plenty of room for just 6. However, the "golden draw arm" had been handed from Brian Tinman (absent as he had to go to Hong Kong - I suppose there's always someone that has to!) to Nick Bastock, as he drew the only peg with the bitterly cold North wind at his back. The rest of us had to put up with it either in our faces, or blowing across our swims. Anyway, Nick (unsurprisingly) put 10 Lbs 1 Oz on the scales, consisting of F1's small carp and some roach all taken on the long pole, for first place. Running him a close second was Carl Pavey (see picture below) with 7 carp taken on the method feeder, for 9 Lbs 4 Ozs and third was Ken Arnold, who struggled to catch, but eventually nipped in front of me with some roach taken on maggot/waggler for 3 Lbs 8 Ozs. I was the final man to weigh in with 2 carp taken on a maggot feeder for 3 Lbs 2 Ozs. Click on the link for the full result. Please note that there was an error in the the points tally from a couple of previous matches, that has now been corrected.

So, with the final match to now be fished on 22 FEBRUARY 2015, ON MALVERLEY POOLS (please note the change of date and venue) Draw at 0845 Hrs, there is nothing in it at the top. Nick Bastock leads by just one point from Ken Arnold, followed by Brian Tinman and Clive Biddulph 6 and 7 points behind respectively. So will the man from Hong Kong who has dominated the league rounds at Malverly return to claim the Winter League Trophy? Or will Ken Arnold manage to sneak in and grab it at this last match? Will Nick Bastock still retain the "Golden Arm" at the draw and take the league? Or could local man Clive Biddulph sweep the bloard and come out on top? Read about it here first!
