SECOND 2015/16 WINTER LEAGUE MATCH RESULT

by Bernie Jones 29 November 2015

The second round of this series was fished at Melverly Pools on an overcast day, after one of the first frosts of the Winter. This made the going hard for most of the anglers competing, but using his tried and tested waggler and meat method (with occasional home made jelly pellets thrown in) Ken Arnold once again ran out winner with 29 Lbs 12 Ozs. Second, using the same tactics, was Brian Tinman with 25 Lbs 13 Ozs. In third place was Nick Bastock with 16 Lbs 11 Ozs. This means that after 2 rounds of the 7 match series Ken Arnold leads with 20 Points, Brian Tinman is second with 16 and third is Glen Fidler with 13. Early days yet, but with some new venues for the Winter League coming up, it will be all down to who practices the most - Oh, that'll probably be Ken and Brian then!

FIRST 2015/2016 WINTER LEAGUE 2015/16 MATCH RESULT

by Bernie Jones 10 November 2015

Well, after all the dry, calm and warm weather, our Match Secretary, Will Carr, decided that the first match of the Winter League series should be fished on Cressage Meadow. What he hadn't bargained for was the torrential downpour we had over Saturday night and the gale force winds and showers that followed this throughout the match. So 15 of us faced the elements and that man again, our current Angler of the Year, Ken Arnold managed to winkle out 3 barbel from peg 22 in the last 90 minutes of the match, despite losing a good fish that broke him early on. This was because he spent all that pools money that he won in the summer on a couple of new reels and didn't quite know how to set the drag! These 3 fish weighed 18 Lbs 15 Ozs (see photo). Joint second from peg 14 was Kevin Nicholls and from peg 7 Glen Fidler, both with one barbel for 8 Lbs. Click on the link to see the full result.

Will all Winter League anglers who intend fishing the next round on 22 November PLEASE let Will know if you are coming, as he has to book pegs on the pool at Melvery Pools, Roadside Lake. Either call or text Will on 07903 505123 no later than Friday 20 November - or you will not have a peg!
