FOURTH WINTER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 11 January 2015

After the temperature tumbling over night to freezing, Sunday 11 January 2015 dawned cold, overcast and very windy. The Beeches Pool looked most uninviting, but 11 hardy winter leaguers turned out (and just to show how hard they are, both Carl Pavey and Gary Stinton fished with broken ankle and toes respectively!). But that man Brian Tinman did it again! He used his "golden arm" to once more pull fancied peg 10 out of the draw bag. This was the peg that had the cold North West wind directly behind him, so he was able to put up a brolly and sit in warmth and luxury, whilst those of us on the opposite bank sat with the wind in our faces all day. But, more importantly, Brian was able to use his waggler rig to advantage, as the cast was "wind assisted" whereas most of the opposition struggled to make the waggler work. Brian put 16 Lbs 10 Ozs on the scales consisting of small carp and chub,a all caught on meat. Second from the "North Sea" side of the pool was Nick Bastock with 13 Lbs 5 Ozs of mainly carp taken on maggot feeder. Third was Carl (I've broken my ankle) Pavey with 8 Lbs 3 Ozs of carp taken on method feeder and meat - well done mate! Disaster of the day was Ken Arnold, who blanked - despite having his rod pulled off the rest twice! This sent Ken tumbling out of the top three places after 4 rounds. But at least the next two matches will give someone else a chance to win, as Brian is off to Hong Kong (shame we all said - someone has to!)

Next Round is on Kings Pools on 1 February and should prove to be very interesting, as it is only the best 4 results to count towards the winter league cup!
