6TH SUMMER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 29 August 2013

Considering it was the Bank Holiday weekend, there was a good turn-out for this match, with 23 anglers on the bank. Warm and overcast for much of the 5 hours, with a slight tinge of colour in the water, conditions looked good. However, the results were not very good! Winner was Tommy Dolan from peg 6 with 20 Lbs 10 Ozs - four barbel taken on banded 6mm pellets. Tommy just pipped Gary Stinton into second place who put weight of 20 Lbs 2 Ozs on the scales from peg 102. Third was Paul Harrison with 10 Lbs 12 Ozs. That man, Graham Jones, has ominously stretched his lead at the top of the table with 31 points from Nick Bastock in second with 25. Third spot has now been taken over by Reg Ford from Colin Morris, with 23 points. There are 4 matches to go to complete the series now. Read the full result by clicking the link below.

FIFTH SUMMER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 15 August 2013

Sunday 11 August saw 29 matchmen turn out for our 5th Summer League match. The river was low again after very little rain, but was carrying a little more colour than of late. The blustery wind made for tricky conditions on the lower pegs, which are more exposed, especially for float anglers. The eventual winner was Brian Tinman, who didn't mind the long walk to peg M, as he managed to weigh in 38 Lbs 2 Ozs of barbel caught on pellet and feeder. Second, from peg 102 was Will Carr, who really should have won it, as he lost four barbel, but the six he weighed in tipped the scales at 27 Lbs. In third place from peg 13 was Clive Biddulph with an all barbel weight again of 19 Lbs 3 Ozs. Fourth from peg 5 was Ken Arnold with 15 Lbs 10 Ozs. With Colin Morris, Reg Ford and Nick Bastock failing to score, it meant that Graham Jones has sneaked into a 3 point lead of the league at the half way point with 23 points. Colin is second on 20 and Reg and Nick equal third on 19. Nobody is stretching away with the league at present, so there's everything to fish for. For the full result, click on the link.

WULAC INVITATION MATCH - 15 SEPTEMBER 2013

by Bernie Jones 14 August 2013

Our colleagues in the WULAC club have invited LAS members to fish their annual match on Tong Mere on Sunday 15 September 2013. This mere holds good bream to over 8 Lbs, Carp well into double figures and tench to over 6 Lbs. There is also a good head of roach, skimmers and perch. In a new move this year, there will be a £20 pool to be split £10 per 5 angler section and £10 individual first 5 places. As those of you who have fished here before will know, being drawn on the shallower side of the mere means that you normally will not be able to compete with the guys on the deeper side. So having a section to fish for will make things a little more even.

If you want to fish it, you need to book in. So please either let me know, or better still, contact George on 07792 516467.

FISH THEFTS

by Bernie Jones 14 August 2013

One of our Bailiffs has reported skein nets and long hook filled lines being found on our water. This has been confined to the Buildwas section, but could happen anywhere. There have been incidents of canoeists setting these traps at night along our river and many others in the country. It is both cruel and illegal.

Would all members please keep a sharp eye out for lines tied to overhanging branches, or fixed to wooden stakes and banged right in to deep grassy banks. I appreciate these are not easy to spot, but please do have a look at any area that could be a good place to set them.

All you need do is remove anything you find and release any fish caught by them. Please let me know too.

FOURTH SUMMER LEAGUE MATCH RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 4 August 2013

After quite a bit of rain overnight. the river had a few inches on and a bit of colour for the first time in weeks. This fresh water enabled Gary Stinton to bag 3 good bream and a barbel out of peg 104 on pellet to win this match with 18 Lbs 9 Ozs. Second with 2 barbel was Nick Bastock with 10 Lbs 3 Ozs from peg G and third from peg 29 was Ken Arnold with 2 barbel caught on maggot, but also lost 2 which could have won him the match. However, the most consistent angler over the four matches so far, proved to be Colin Morris, who now leads the league on 20 points, having weighed in at all 4. But there are 3 competitors on 19 points right behind him - Graham Jones, Reg Ford and Nick Bastock. What will happen at match 5? Read it here after next Sundday's match.
