The first match of the new season was fished on a hot and sunny 22 June. The river was quite low with very little colour, which made it difficult to tempt any large numbers of barbel and big chub to feed. However, the many silver fish, mostly dace and bleak, were aplenty. The winner, who started the season in the manner he finished the last one, was Graham Jones, from favoured peg 76, with an all barbel catch of 30 Lbs 8 Ozs. Second from peg 28 was Paul Harrison, with 3 barbel for 17 Lbs 8 Ozs and third from Buildwas peg J, was Brian Tinman, with 15 Lbs 8 Ozs. Final pools fourth place went to went to Gordon Bradley with 2 good barbel for 13 Lbs 9 Ozs from peg 35. For the complete result click on the link.

Will all members please note that Cressage Meadow has been completely cleared ready for the new season, but that members SHOULD NOT DRIVE ON THE CROP! Please use the turning places available at pegs 8, 26 and 35. If there are any vehicle tracks visible from the air, the Environment Agency helicopter will video this and then fine our Riparian Land Owner for infringement of his ecology agreement. This will then lead to ALL MEMBERS BEING BANNED FROM TAKING VEHICLES IN TO THE MEADOW. So please stick to the wheeltracks.
Please also note that around peg 8 some stone has been put in the wheeltracks to obviate the problem of getting stuck in the mud. Some of this stone is prominent, so take great car not to damage the underside of your vehicle.
Pegs 95 - 105 are in very long grass at present and the farmer, Peter Taylor has promised to cut a path round line of the the river shortly. Some pegs may therefore be difficult to find. I will try to rectify this in the next few days.
Anyone wanting to complain about access to pegs should have turned out to one of the work parties!

It is with great sadness that I have to report the sad death of Tommy Dolan. One of the real characters of the match scene, Tommy brought a great deal of fun and laughter to everyone that knew him. His battle with cancer was lost in early May, after a short spell in hospital. His generosity, his smile and his great sense of fun will be very greatly missed by us all. May he rest in peace.
