Just 16 anglers turned out to fish this annual match on the river. The weather was warmer than it had been for some days and there was no overnight frost either; but the river was up a good 3-4 feet and was very cold. This made locating feeding fish very difficult, but returning to the match scene for the first time in a while, Jason Owen managed to snag a barbel of 9 Lbs 12 Ozs from peg 112 on the Buildwas water to win. Second, with another single barbel from peg 17, was veteran Pat Nolan, for 7 Lbs 8 Ozs (just goes to show that practice makes perfect Pat!). Third was a member returning to the club after some years away, Barry Jackson, with another single barbel for 7 Lbs 2 Ozs from peg 77. You can bet on the weather warming up after today, as it's the end of the season! So let's all look forward to having the sun on our backs come 16th June. For the full result click on the link.

There was a very cold easterly wind blowing when 14 anglers turned up at Melverley Fisheries' Birch Pool on 28th February, but at least the weather was dry. The fish did not respond in the way they did for some us that practised (well, that's my excuse!) and Clive Biddulph managed to suss out that they wanted maggot, not meat, on the day. He put 13 Lbs 2 Ozs on the scales, consisting of 3 good sized carp to grab first place. Second was that man again, Ken Arnold, with smaller carp for 11 Lbs 4 Ozs and third was Nick Bastock with 9 Lbs 9 Ozs. This now means that Ken cannot be caught on 50 points, but runner up and third place for £100 and £50 league pools respectively, will be fought out at the last match on 27 March at Melverley Birch Pool once more. It looks like these places will be between Nick, Gordon Bradley, Pat Atkins myself and Clive. For the full result click on the link.

This Sunday's Scamble Match, which is open to non-member guests to fish, is defintely ON. Draw will be at 0900 Hrs at Peg 2 in Cressage Meadow, fish 1030 Hrs till 1530 Hrs.
Although recent heavy rain has put 1.2m on the river today (Friday 11 March), but will drop at least a foot a day now. There being no rain forecast over the coming 48 hours should mean the river will be in excellent condition for this last match of the 2015/16 season.
