MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS FOR 2018

by Bernie Jones 28 December 2017

I have had a few enquiries about subscription renewals, so I repeat here that I always send out renewal letters between Christmas and the New Year, to avoid getting mixed up with the Christmas post. Snail-Mail letters were put into the post on 30th December so they should arrive by 2nd January. If you have given me an email address, I have emailed your renewal letter to you today, 31st December. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE CHANGED YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS! I cannot email yours to you if I don't have your correct email address.

If all else fails I attach the emailed version here; please just download it and either print it off and fill it in, or provide the information required on a piece of papaer and send it to me with your cheque/Postal Order made payable to "LAS". Also attached is the January 2018 Newsletter, which I hope you find interesting and informative.

THIRD WINTER LEAGUE MATCH 2017/18 RESULT

by Bernie Jones 28 December 2017

Melverley Farm, Birches Pool was the venue for the third round of the current Winter League, which was fished on 3rd December 2017. The day was quite mild for the time of year and started very calm, which is unusual for this venue as it normally blows a gale. The wind did spring up towards the end of the match, but this didn't put the fish off. Eventual winner was Nick Bastock with 35 Lbs 8 Ozs taken on the pole at mid-distance and against the island on pellet. Second was yours truly with 27 Lbs exactly consisting of carp to 4 Lbs and F1s with a few good roach taken on feeder and long pole with maggot. Third was Richard Perrins from the next peg from me, with a weight of 21 Lbs exactly mostly taken on the feeder against the island, plus a few fish taken on the pole at about 6m. The unfortunate Pat Atkins had to retire half way through the match, as he was feeling very poorly. We later learned that he spent a few days in hospital recovering. Everyone will want to wish you well Pat, especially as we weighed in what you had caught till you had to leave and you still came 6th! Ken Arnold, on the other side of me, faltered (for once!) with just 4 Lbs exactly and just two points, which allowed Brain Tinman to edge in front in the league with 26 points and Ken now in second place with 20. I am now third on 18. With 7 more rounds to go, anything can happen though. The next one is on Monkhall Fishery's Swallow Pool on 28th January 2018. Bit of a gap, but a venue that will be well worth the wait! Read the result here. For the full results so far, click on the link.

BORED WITH CHRISTMAS ALREADY?

by Bernie Jones 22 December 2017

If you, like me, are already fed up with all the Christmas melee, read on!

Our Match Secretary, Will Carr, is planning a "knock up" match on Melverley Fisheries Roadside Pool on the 7 January. It will be first come, first served, as Will reckons we can only get a maximum of 10 anglers on this pool. So call him now on 07903 505123 to book your place.

EXTREME WEATHER PIKE!

by Bernie Jones 21 December 2017

Whilst most of us were struggling to get vehicles along the roads because of the heavy snowfall, "Extreme Anglers" Adam Cooper and his guest Paul Tinsley went to a very swollen river to fish for pike! As can be seen in the photograph below, Paul's efforts were rewarded with this excellent condition 9 Lbs 8 Ozs fish taken on a whole mackeral mounted on a wire trace under a dart float, just a metre from the bank. It just goes to show that persistence pays dividends - well done Paul! Might you join LAS next year then?
