The 22 April 2018 saw the penultimate match fished on Wigmore Pools on a warm and mostly sunny day. This match produced yet another win for Ken Arnold with 33 Lbs exactly, which consisted of mainly carp and F1s taken on the long pole. Using the same method, Brian Tinman was second with 31 Lbs 8 Ozs and Nick Bastock was third with 23 Lbs 12 Ozs.
The final match was fished on 6 May 2018 at Weston Pools in hot sunny weather. Our Match Secretary used the margins with corn and maggot to take the win with an excellent 73 Lbs 8 Ozs. Second was Nick Bastock with 43 Lbs exactly and third equal were Paul Stych and Brian Tinman with 35 Lbs 8 Ozs.
This meant that Ken Arnold won the winter league with 74 points and Brian Tinman was second with 69 points and third was Nick Bastock with 62 points.
We all must try harder next year to beat Ken!

With storm force winds, but reasonably mild for the time of year, this match fished on the 28th January, proved to be difficult for most of those anglers that fished it. So much so that Richard Perrins and Nick Bastock broke their poles trying to hold them in the strong wind! Winner, with exactly 21 Lbs, was Dave Leary, second was Nick Bastock with 18 Lbs 4 Ozs and third was Will Carr with exactly 17 Lbs. As Brian Tinman was in Thailand, Ken Arnold missed the opportunity to nip ahead of him, only managing sixth place. So Brian still leads the league after 4 rounds with 26 points. Ken is second on 25 and yours truly is in third with 21. With 6 matches still to go, there is a lot that can - and probably will! - happen. Read about it here first.

Whilst most of us were struggling to get vehicles along the roads because of the heavy snowfall, "Extreme Anglers" Adam Cooper and his guest Paul Tinsley went to a very swollen river to fish for pike! As can be seen in the photograph below, Paul's efforts were rewarded with this excellent condition 9 Lbs 8 Ozs fish taken on a whole mackeral mounted on a wire trace under a dart float, just a metre from the bank. It just goes to show that persistence pays dividends - well done Paul! Might you join LAS next year then?
