The venue attracted 11 anglers for this match at Melverley Farm Pools. The weather was mild for 23 November and after a few light showers the sun even came out. From a fancied peg in the corner, Brian Tinman had a fish whilst testing the depth with a bare hook! This obviously bode well, as he went on to trounce the opposition with a net of 52 Lbs 8 Ozs. After having a "near death experience" when Ken Arnold took him onto the Buildwas section of the river in the rain on Friday before the match, he got his revenge on Ken, who was soundly beaten into second place on the next peg, with 32 Lbs dead. Third was Nick Bastock from the fancied road side of the pool with 23 Lbs 8 Ozs. The venue is fantastic, as it contains every species except pike. This was borne out by Clive Biddulph, who put a tench and a barbel on the scales in addition to the chub, carp, bream, roach and rudd that all other anglers caught. Everyone agreed that this is a fantasic fishery, where all methods work and so can't wait for the third leg also to be fished here on 7 December. For the full result, click on the link.

On a cold, dank 9th November, 7 hardy Winter League anglers turned out for the first leg of this year's series of matches on Cressage Meadow. The river was up and rising, which made it really hard to catch. The winner was Ken Arnold from peg 33 with 2 fish for 11 Lbs 4 Ozs. Second was Clive Biddulph from peg 22 with 5 Lbs 12 Ozs, third was Ray Armstrong from peg 32 with just 2 Ozs and last man to catch was Kevin Nicholls with just 1 Oz. A grueller!
Will Carr kindly offered to run this year's league and has booked the second match at Melverley Farm Pools, Telford. This is Situated off the A442 four miles north of Wellington, Sat Nav TF6 6QX.
As Will is on holiday for this one, if you would like to fish this match, please contact on Nick Bastock on 07747 030106 , to let him know you will be there, so pegs can be booked. Mark Brooks' dad, Mike, travelled from Bedfordshire (2 1/2 hour journey) to fish for the day Mark's guest. On a vey mild Autumn day, Mark and dad headed for Cressage Meadow to try and catch his first barbel. They started in Peg 26 with no joy, then moved to lucky peg 13. Dad was fishing to the far bank, baited with a few feeders of groundbait and a handful of boilies and a 15mm boilie as hook bait. The rig was 2 foot of 10lb fluorocarbon with a size 8 continental boilie hook, with 12lb mainline. He was using Mark's Fox Warrior Barbel Rod (1.75lb Test Curve). Within 10 minutes of casting out the rod was thumping with his first Barbel. After a long, powerful, fight as the fish hugged the bottom for several minutes, Mark eventually netted the fish, which tipped the scales right around to 9lb 4oz. What a stunning Barbel, but what a first ever Barbel! It will be hard to top this fish, but he will certainly be back to try another day.

The final match of the Summer League series resulted in an emphatic win for Ken Arnold, with a great weight of 49 Lbs 8 Ozs from peg 22. Second with 28 Lbs 8 Ozs was Gary Stinton and third was Graham Jones with 16 Lbs, which was enough for Graham, once again, to secure the Angler of the Year Trophy with a points tally of 68. Ken was second with 64 (if only you hadn't gone to Scotland for a holiday and had fished match 9!) and third was Paul Harrison on 59. For the full result, just click on the link below.
Graham Jones has won the Angler of the Year Trophy in 2007, 2010, 2011, 2013 and now again in 2014. A remarkable achievement, so well done Graham. Can you please have a year off next season to give the rest of us a chance?!
