BEN LLOYD'S BARBEL

by Bernie Jones 18 August 2019

Joint front runner for the Barbel Cup this year is new member, Ben Lloyd. At the last match on the 11th August he drew pag 113 on the Buildwas water and amongst his net was this 9 Lbs 8 Ozs fish that took meat fed through a cage feeder 2/3 across the river. This ties with the fish caught by John Parsons from peg 26 in an earlier round. Will anyone top these two barbel? I hope so, or we'll have to cut the cup in half!

SUMMER LEAGUE 2019 - MATCHES 2 & 3 RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 10 August 2019

As our Match Secretary has been fishing in Ireland and then had to take the family to Corfu, he has not been able to either fish these matches, or bring the results up to date until now.

The second match was a float only and was won by Clive Biddulph from peg 98 with an all silver bag of 18 Lbs 8 Ozs taken on stick float and maggot/caster. Second was Graham Jones with exactly 18 Lbs from peg 95 and third was Ben Lloyd from peg 13 with 12 Lbs 14 Ozs.

The third match saw the river runnning low and clear, which would normally make it very hard going in the bright sunshine. But, the forecast rain mostly stayed off and the skies clouded over. This helped to produce some decent weights. Clive (I like the walk to pegs 97 or 98) Biddulph drew 97 and managed to put 42 Lbs 6 Ozs of barbel and chub onto the scales for the win - again! He just pipped me into second place with 17 bream taken on feeder and meat from peg 75 for 38 Lbs 10 Ozs. Third was Paul Harrison with 27 Lbs 13 Ozs from peg 103.

NO SALMON TO BE TAKEN FROM RIVERN SEVERN THIS YEAR

by Bernie Jones 1 August 2019

All Salmon anglers are reminded that from 16th June 2019 no Salmon are to be taken from the River Severn for the remainder of 2019. This is part of drastic conservation measures taken by the Environment Agency and fines for ignoring this are very steep.
