WINTER LEAGUE MATCH 6 RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 25 March 2019

On a very windy day, with torrential rain forecast, 14 winter leaguers contested this, the sixth match for ten at Monkhall Fishery. Drawing one of the end pegs, Ken Arnold showed how it is done by putting an impressive 37 Lbs on the scales by using the long pole and pellet for mainy F1s. Second with 29 Lbs was Nick Bastock, using similar tactics. In third spot was Gordon Bradley with 26 Lbs 8 Ozs taken in the tip and method feeder. The rain came down about 30m minutes from the end of the match making for a very soggy finish. For the full ressult click on the link.

WINTER LEAGUE MATCHES 4 AND 5 RESULTS

by Bernie Jones 2 March 2019

Our Match Secretary, Will Carr, has been exceptionally busy this past month, so has only now had time to prepare the attached spreadsheet.

Match 4 of this year's league was fished at Springlea, Orfe Pool because Melverly was frozen solid! The Orfe Pool was half frozen too, but there were enough unfrozen pegs to accommodate us. Because the water was so cold, the going was very hard, with most anglers struggling for bites. But it was Clive Biddulph fishing on the long pole at the edge of the ice who managed a few roach for a winning weight of just 2 Lbs 4 Ozs. Ken Arnold managed to hook a decent Ide plus a small carp on the long pole and pellet for second place with 2 Lbs 1 Oz, and yours truly had 27 small roach and gudgeon on pole and maggot for 1 Lbs 3 Ozs for third.

Match 5 was fished, as scheduled, on the Orfe Pool at Springlea once again. This time the weather was unseasonably warm and sunny. This one was won by Paul Stych with 20 Lbs 12 Ozs of carp taken mostly on the tip with corn. Second was Bob Smith with 20 Lbs 9 Ozs, who lost 4 "lumps" at the net, taken on the tip and long pole with pellet. Third was yours truly with 16 Lbs 4 Ozs consisting of 4 carp taken on the pole and pellet/maggot - the biggest (around 7 Lbs) on an 18 hoook and single maggot!
