After a drop of rain, the 26 June was a pleasantly warm day with a downstream wind. Many anglers had their match disrupted by the canoes that paddled down the river, but none seemed to disturb Tony Kilmister on peg 97 who put 95 Lbs on the scales. A near record that still stands at 97 Lbs 11 Ozs. Second from peg 102 was Ken Arnold with 45 Lbs and third was Graham Jones from peg 77 with 23 Lbs 2 Ozs. We were fortunate to have Harry Ballard from the Environment Agency's West Midlands Fishery Team drop in to the pub at the end of yesterday's match. He brought with him some "Scale Kits" for our members to use to collect chub and barbel scales to help with study of the health of our fish stocks.
He also has sent details of the River Severn Barbel - Mark/Recapture Study. It is very important for our members to know about this and to make a return if they catch any of these marked barbel. It will also help to make decisions about barbel re-stocking in our water. So, please read this attachment.
