Because our hard working Match Secretary was so busy, the 7th match result was not available until after we had fished the 8th match of the 10 match series. So, here is the current situation. Match 7 was fished on a cold frosty morning, which later really warmed up, on the Mallard Pool at Spring Lea. Everyone thought that it would fish well as the temperature rose, but it was not to be the case. Winner (yet again!) was Ken Arnold with 29 Lbs 8 Ozs mostly taken late on with his (now) usual pole and pellet. Second was his stable mate, Brian Tinman with 23 Lbs 4 Ozs taken on the same method and third was Nick Bastock who used pole, tip and waggler to put together a weight of 14 Lbs 8 Ozs.
The 8th match was fished on a perfect day at Melverley Fishery's Birches Pool. The weather was warm and the wind light, but you really needed to draw and that's something that Ken Arnold always seems to be able to do! Drawn on an "end peg" by the feeder stream to the pool, Ken showed us all how it is done. He caught mostly on the pole with bread punch and pellet, but also had a couple of fish on the waggler and meat for a total of 35 Lbs 8 Ozs which totally trounced the rest of us. Second place went to Paul Stych (pictured) with 13 Lbs 8 Ozs caught on pole along the margin and mid water and third was Dave Leary with 11 Lbs exactly all taken on the tip.
This means that Ken is now way out in front with 58 points, Brian is firly in second with 52 and Nick is third with 45. Two rounds to go and the next one is at Wigmore, where you will need landing net head and keep nets.
